So, you feel like you’ve outgrown of all your jewellery. It all feels over worn, boring, and you’re ready to throw it all out and start again. STOP! Before you make any rash decisions, try these 3 tips to up-cycle your collection rather than letting it go to waste.

CLEAN YOUR PIECES

Cleaning your pieces can literally make them look as good as new. Go through your jewellery collection, pull out your forgotten pieces and give them a good clean. The best way to clean your pieces will depend on the material they are made of. If your items are from Slani, we recommend cleaning them under lukewarm water with a small drop of mild soap. Rinse everything under running water and buff dry with a soft cloth. If your pieces have larger tarnished spots, we recommend taking them to a trusted jeweller so they can be thoroughly cleaned by an expert

LAYER LAYER LAYER

  1. You would be surprised how different a piece can look depending on whether it is worn alone or paired with other items. At Slani, our pieces are all born to be stacked. Whether it’s creating an eye-catching ear stack or an effortless chain necklace set, there is something for everyone. For example, I had an old pair of gold sleepers which I didn’t wear for literally 5 years. After buying my Dainty Crystal Hoops, I paired the two together and I haven’t taken them out since! Layering new pieces with your current items will ensure that you buy only what you need to create your desired look – saving your wallet and minimising waste!

SWAP WITH A FRIEND

Jewellery swaps are probably the best thing since sliced bread (no exaggeration). Choose 5 pieces of your jewellery and arrange a jewellery swap with your nearest and dearest. Not only does this save your wallet, but it will also introduce you to pieces you may not have even considered! Jewellery swaps can be a one-off, or you can swap each month if you’d prefer to only temporarily say goodbye to your pieces. For hygienic purposes, we would recommend that when it comes to jewellery swaps to steer clear of earrings and be sure to give all your items a good clean before and after to minimise the risk of infection or irritation.
